Blue Bonnet Ridge was a complete surprise to us. As I had prepped this field to plant grain one year and the late rains conspired against me. After hundreds of hours prepping to plant 400 acres of grain, I was only able to get 70 acres in the ground. Still frustrated at having at putting so much effort into the ground and not being able to plant my crop, one morning I marveled as I realized that my work had helped Mother Nature establish a magnificent 50 acre wildflower field. The field had not been plowed since the 1970s, so 40 years of Lupine seed had accumulated. The result – a 50 acre carpet of blue! We are grateful for the annual beauty of the wildflowers in spring and look forward to sharing with our guests.
